OUR GOALS

We want to create technology and resources that will allow users who live with acute physical challenges to pursue their passion for photography. Our primary focus will be on users with SCI, but our hope is that users across the entire disability spectrum will also benefit from our work.

WELCOME TO EMPOWERED PHOTOGRAPHY

This site describes a program to develop and utilize technology (hardware and software) that will provide users who live with physical challenges complete artistic and creative control over their cameras. This includes voice-controlled camera operation and camera positioning.

OPEN SOURCE

To develop and distribute (freely available) software that will allow users to have full operational control over their cameras.

AUTOMATED CAMERA POSITIONING

To develop, and to test commercially available hardware that will allow users to position their cameras. Where possible, this will be automated.

INCLUSIVE COMMUNITY

To develop a fully-accessible website where photo enthusiasts can acquire technical information and resources, share their experiences/ideas and celebrate the beauty of photography.

HANDS-FREE CAMERA CONTROL

Acquire full control of camera mobility, lens calibration, etc. completely hands-free! We have developed a perfect synergy of hardware and software to give you seamless audio-assisted camera control.

WELCOMING COMMUNITY

We are creating a place on the internet where photography is celebrated.  Join with others to discuss new methods of shooting photos and accessing tools to improve your photo workflow.  Share your results and get feedback on your ideas.

EXPRESS YOURSELF

Here at empowered photography, we provide you with a platform to express your inner creativity. Pursue your artistic endeavors through the means of our cutting-edge assistive photography technology. Do away with nuances and refocus your energy on what truly matters.

OUR INSPIRATION

Our work is very much driven and inspired by two individuals, both enthusiastic and extremely talented photographers with whom we have been very fortunate to work with.

JAMES DUNN

James lived with a debilitating disease that severely limited his movement. We had the pleasure of working with him for a number of years. Very sadly, James died in April, 2018. Our work is dedicated to his memory.
