A Story Worth Telling

I recently had the privilege of photographing a couple whose story pulled at the heartstrings. They began dating back in high school. This kind of young love often grows through hallway glances, long car rides, and late-night texts. Now, they’re navigating college and long-distance relationships. They are also experiencing all the complicated yet beautiful transitions that come with growing up together, even if miles apart.

This summer, they’re both home in Grand Rapids. It’s a brief moment, just a few weeks, a pause in the middle of two different internships in multiple states. One partner is headed to Georgia, and the other to California. They reached out for a photoshoot, not for an engagement or announcement, but to capture this fleeting moment. It’s a sweet, sun-soaked space in their relationship where they finally get to just be together.

And honestly, this session was one of the most romantic and intentional I’ve ever photographed.

A Joyous Experience

During the shoot, they were playful and full of laughter. Holding each other as they have done for years, they still looked at one another like it was all brand new. We chased the golden light of the evening and recreated little date ideas that meant something to them. We also made space for quiet moments—a kind of stillness that exists only with someone who truly understands your heart.

These are the moments I live to capture. Not just the “big moments,” but also the in-betweens. The early mornings before they fly off to different time zones. The walks through favorite parks. The soft, familiar ways they lean into one another after being apart for months.

If you’re in Grand Rapids this summer and spending time with someone you love, I’d love to help you freeze this chapter in time. Whether you’re dating, married, or long-distance, I’m here for you.

Create Your Own Memory

These sessions don’t need to be fancy or overly posed. They can be as simple as a picnic, an ice cream stop, or a walk in a park that holds special meaning for you. I’ll help you plan something that feels like a date, not a photoshoot. Something honest, emotional, playful, and true to your story.

Because these in-between seasons matter. They deserve to be remembered too.

Let’s Document Your Love

Let’s show the love you share right here and right now. Just as it is.
